An Export Certificate of Airworthiness (Export CofA) is issued by the Gibraltar Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) for a Gibraltar-registered aircraft that is being exported to another State of Registry. The Export CofA certifies that, at the time of inspection, the aircraft complies with the applicable airworthiness requirements and any additional airworthiness requirements notified by the importing State.
The issue of an Export CofA does not invalidate the aircraft’s existing Certificate of Airworthiness (CofA). The existing CofA remains valid until the aircraft is formally removed from the Gibraltar Aircraft Register.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted using Form AIR 02 – Application for an Export Certificate of Airworthiness, together with the applicable fee and the supporting documentation specified in CAP AIR 01, Appendix D.
Applicants are responsible for confirming the certification and import requirements of the receiving State before submitting the application. Any additional airworthiness requirements specified by the importing authority should accompany the application.
Upon receipt of the application, the GCAA will review the submitted documentation and, where required, arrange for an inspection of the aircraft and its associated technical records by a GCAA Airworthiness Inspector.
Already Had a Recent Inspection?
Where an application for an Export CofA is submitted within 60 days of the issue or renewal of the aircraft’s Certificate of Airworthiness, the GCAA may determine that a further physical inspection is not necessary.
In such cases, the Export CofA may be issued based on the previous airworthiness inspection, provided the GCAA is satisfied that the aircraft continues to comply with the applicable requirements.
Applicants should note that an Export CofA issued under this provision may be dated up to 60 days before it is presented to the importing authority. It is therefore the applicant’s responsibility to confirm that the importing authority will accept an Export CofA of this validity.
Issue of the Certificate
Once the GCAA is satisfied that all applicable airworthiness requirements have been met, and any additional requirements of the importing authority have been addressed, an Export CofA will be issued.
