An Alternative Method of Compliance (AMOC) is an approved alternative to the actions specified in an Airworthiness Directive (AD) that provides an equivalent level of safety.
Automatic Acceptance
For aircraft registered in Gibraltar, the GCAA accepts certain AMOC, provided that:
- the AMOC has been approved by the State of Design, or by the authority identified on the GCAA Type Acceptance Certificate that issued the applicable AD; and
- the applicant is the Design Approval Holder.
For aircraft previously registered in another State, the GCAA will also accept an AMOC approved by the former State of Registry, provided the applicant was the Design Approval Holder and the AMOC was embodied before the aircraft was registered in Gibraltar.
Declaration of Existing AMOCs
Where an aircraft incorporates one or more AMOCs before the issue of a Certificate of Airworthiness in Gibraltar, details of those AMOCs must be declared to the GCAA before the aircraft inspection and review of the continuing airworthiness records.
Superseded Airworthiness Directives
When an Airworthiness Directive is superseded, any associated AMOCs cease to be valid unless they have been updated to reference the superseding AD.
Other AMOCs
Where an AMOC does not qualify for automatic acceptance, applicants must submit Form AIR 38 for review by the GCAA before it may be used on an aircraft registered Gibraltar.
