A Certificate of Airworthiness (CofA) is required before an aircraft may be operated on the Gibraltar Aircraft Register. The certificate confirms that the aircraft complies with the applicable airworthiness requirements and is in a condition for safe operation.
The GCAA issues Certificates of Airworthiness following a review of the aircraft’s technical documentation and a physical inspection carried out by a GCAA Airworthiness Inspector. The overall processing time depends on the completeness of the application, the availability of the aircraft for inspection and the timely closure of any Findings identified during the certification process.
To facilitate an efficient certification process, owners and operators should ensure that the aircraft, technical records and supporting documentation are fully prepared before submitting an application.
Prior to the inspection, the Nominated Airworthiness Coordinator (NAC) should verify that the aircraft complies with the applicable airworthiness requirements and that all supporting records are complete and available for review.
Where practicable, the NAC should be available during the inspection to present the aircraft and assist the GCAA Airworthiness Inspector. Alternatively, the owner or operator may nominate another suitably authorised representative, provided that person is fully familiar with the aircraft and its maintenance status.
