The periodic renewal of a Certificate of Airworthiness (CofA) provides assurance that an aircraft continues to comply with the applicable airworthiness requirements and remains in a condition for safe operation. Renewal enables the GCAA to verify that the aircraft has been properly maintained, that any applicable airworthiness requirements have been me and that the aircraft continues to be eligible for operation on the Gibraltar Aircraft Register.
When to Apply
Applications for renewal may be submitted up to 60 days before the CofA expires without any loss of validity or renewal periodicity. This ensures that the renewed CofA will become effective from the existing expiry date, preserving the normal renewal cycle.
Application Process
Applications for renewal must be submitted using Form AIR 01 – Application for the Issue of a Certificate of Airworthiness, together with the applicable fee and the supporting documentation specified in CAP AIR 01, Appendix C.
Upon receipt of the application, the GCAA will review the submitted documentation. If the application is satisfactory, an inspection of the aircraft and its associated records will be arranged with a GCAA Airworthiness Inspector. The inspection confirms that the aircraft continues to comply with the applicable airworthiness requirements and is maintained in a condition for safe operation.
Findings
If any findings are identified during the inspection, they must be satisfactorily addressed and accepted by the GCAA before the renewal of the Certificate of Airworthiness. Applicants are therefore encouraged to schedule inspections well in advance of the certificate expiry date to allow sufficient time for the completion and verification of any corrective actions.
Issue of the Certificate
Once the GCAA is satisfied that the aircraft continues to comply with the applicable airworthiness requirements and any Findings have been closed, the CofA will be renewed.
