CAP OPS 06 – Head-Up Displays (HUD) and Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS) provides guidance to General Aviation operators on the operational use and approval requirements for HUD and EVS installed on Gibraltar-registered aircraft.
The GCAA supports the use of Head-Up Displays (HUD) and Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS) to improve flight safety, situational awareness, and all-weather operational capability. These technologies provide flight crews with critical flight information and enhanced visual imagery within the pilot’s forward field of view, reducing workload and supporting decision-making during taxi, take-off, approach, and landing.
HUD and EVS may be installed either independently or as an integrated system. Where these systems are used solely to enhance situational awareness, no GCAA operational approval is required. However, General Aviation operators seeking operational credit, such as reduced operating minima or lower Runway Visual Range (RVR) requirements, must obtain GCAA approval before commencing such operations.
To support an application, operators must demonstrate that the installed equipment is approved for the intended operation and submit the supporting aircraft documentation, operating procedures, maintenance programme, flight crew training programme, and any other documentation specified in CAP OPS 06. Operators must also establish appropriate standard operating procedures, contingency procedures, and crew coordination practices to ensure the safe use of HUD and EVS during normal and low visibility operations.
Applications must be submitted using Form OPS 10 – Application for Head-Up Display (HUD) and Enhanced Vision System (EVS) Approval, together with the supporting documentation specified in CAP OPS 06. Following satisfactory review, the GCAA will issue the applicable Specific Approval.
