Getting Started

Planning to register your aircraft in Gibraltar? We recommend contacting the Gibraltar Aircraft Registry (GAR) at the earliest opportunity. Our team will assess your proposed registration, explain the applicable requirements, and provide tailored guidance to ensure an efficient and straightforward registration process.

CAP GEN 02 – Registration of Aircraft is the principal guidance document for aircraft registration in Gibraltar. It outlines the eligibility requirements, registration procedures, documentation standards, registration marks, and includes the Appendix A Registration Checklist. Applications and supporting documentation may be submitted electronically, allowing the process to commence without delay.

Once we receive your enquiry, a dedicated Registration Officer will be assigned as your single point of contact. They will confirm the availability of your preferred registration mark (where requested), provide a tailored checklist of the required forms and supporting documentation, and assist you throughout the application process.

Where applicable, the Certificate of Registration (CofR) and initial Certificate of Airworthiness (CofA) processes will be coordinated in parallel to minimise delays.

Applicants should not de-register an aircraft from its current State of Registry until GAR has confirmed that the aircraft is eligible for registration and the Export Certificate of Airworthiness, or equivalent documentation, has been reviewed and accepted.

The Certificate of Registration will be issued once all applicable requirements have been satisfied, including:

  • acceptance of the required documentation;
  • payment of the prescribed fees; and
  • confirmation of de-registration from the previous State of Registry (or confirmation of non-registration for a new aircraft).

Your Registration Officer will keep you informed of progress throughout the process and remain available to assist until registration has been completed.

For further information or to discuss your proposed registration, please contact registration@gar.aero.
